Summary: A tired hotel receptionist gets an unexpected surprise.

Working in a hotel in downtown Metropolis you see a lot of unusual things at all times of the day and night but what happened this fall was the most shocking. At first it didn’t look that unusual but that gradually changed as events unfolded.

It was around two a.m. on a Friday morning in the middle of November when the two walked into the lowly lighted lobby. At first glance my immediate impression was that the bald guy wearing an Armani suit was obviously unhappy about something but the other man was a well built brunette hunk who seemed to be protective of the bald guy. The hunk was tall, green eyed and had a massive grin on his face that made me think he was high on something.

“Can we have a room please?” The brunette said with a small laugh.

I dared a quick look at the man’s eyes that turned out to be normal before answering, “What kind of room and for how long, Sir?”

“A double for a week,” The bald man said a sneer in his voice.

“We have one free.” I answered politely while changing my opinion of the pair. I had assumed the bald guy was a businessman and the brunette his bodyguard but apparently not. Obviously I was not going to get a chance with the hunk I decided, putting the room key on the counter.

“Thanks,” The hunk replied with a devastating smile that caused the bald man to elbow him.

I smiled in reply as I handed over a standard sign in form, noticing for the first time that the bald guy had one hand in the belt loops of the brunette’s jeans. I couldn’t decide if it was a way of showing the man belonged to him or simply a gesture of affection. I watched the bald guy fill in the form with the hand that wasn’t attached to the hunk before handing over the key.

As the pair walked away from the desk I looked at the sign in form and gaped in amazement. The pair who had just signed in were Lex Luthor and Clark Kent. There had been rumours about the two of them in certain areas of Metropolis for years but I wasn’t going to say anything. It was nothing to do with me and their lives would get complicated enough when they came out to the world at large.

Clark paused to place a small kiss on Luthor’s bald head before saying, “I’m sorry Pete blew up the castle and that your dad’s latest floozy is staying in your penthouse. I wish we could have spent our anniversary at home but I’ll make it up to you.”

“I’m sure you will find a suitable way to apologise.” Luthor said with a laugh.

As they approached the door Clark asked softly, “What are we going to do if he outs us?”

As he stepped outside Luthor gave an unconcerned shrug, “I’ll ruin him and to show how much I love you, I’ll stop there instead of destroying his family.”

Looking back at my copy of the Daily Planet, I decided to take Luthor’s words as a warning. It occurred to me that Clark really had calmed him down as before he would have done exactly what he had joked about and enjoyed it. Clark Kent and Lex Luthor were a match made in heaven for those of us who would have suffered at Luthor’s hand without Clark there to steady him.

The End
